Sussie the little blue car---THE ORIGINAL 'CARS'

So this is not my artwork....BUT I might pay homage to this cartoon soon and replace this video with the sketch. This was by far one of my favorite cartoons as a kid. Maybe the reason I still enjoy a cartoon every now and than.

**UPDATE** I just did a real quick sketch.

Carnivor

2HEADED PIG-
Refers to the many times
I saw the pig head being used as an logo or icon.

HANGING PIG-
This refers to the constant
push to sell pork for way less than beef.

____________________________________________________________________

I sketched these two after a three year period of working at a meat market. I would constantly see the faces of people when I was cutting meat. Especially with children. There was always a shock value behind animal flesh being cut or sawed. I guess it was a surreal sound, almost like the animal was being slaughtered on-the-spot. Almost everyday in the winter and fall people would come in wanting pig feet cut into small 1 inch square pieces.

There was also a fascination with ham, so much that the meat market would go through 10 pounds a day sometimes. Countless hours of cutting pork and the constant usage of a pig as a icon or logo for meat manufactures inspired these drawings. Hope not to offend any vegetarians or vegans out there. As for the "Live Free" and "Eat Pork" lettering on the first sketch, "Live Free" refers to a gallery I had plans in opening one day. Well the "Eat Pork" refers to how brainwash people were by the lower prices of pork meat and the constant image of the pig being feed to them. That is just my opinion from working behind the counter for more than two years.

El Pato - Tomato Sauce

This sketch was from the series of my previous entry. It is a close up of the duck on the can of El Pato tomato sauce. As a kid and even as an adult I sometimes put Mexican style tomato sauce on my food. The taste is better than any Taco Bell hot sauce packet could ever give you. I learned this year that the tomato vegetable is from Mesoamerica. Mesoamerica was the native ground of great civilizations like the Maya, Olmec and Aztecs. Today the tomato is rich in Latin culture and is used in everything from rice to baked dises like enchiladas. Just thought I share that with everyone.

Above the heart of East Los Angeles

This piece was done in the fall of 2003. I was at an local community art center(Self Help Graphics and Art). As everyone else that I was with including me noticed the incredible sunset that day, some people took pictures, I decided to sketch it. The view was great, overlooking Downtown L.A. from a distance and a clutter of barrios with hundreds of homes. The original sketch had no color. Until yesterday when I was going through old stuff and found it, I quickly uploaded the sketch into my computer and digitally colored it. I found several more and did the same, maybe I'll post some more soon.

My elementary

So this is a rendering of my elementary I talked about in my first post. My class was right above the entrance, right across is the liquor store.

First post!!!

So this is a new thing for me, as far as blogging and stuff but I want to break away from the norm and start sharing my art and thoughts with anyone who visits this site starting with my header.

LUCKY 7 MARKET is near my house. As a child I attended the elementary across from there and remember it was the one of the first and last thing I seen everyday.

Well that's all for now. -AR3
